Inspiration

I was recently asked by a friend what kinds of books I was reading, and what types of media I was consuming. I nearly just pasted my response into a Signal message before realizing that I should add it here for later reference.

If you’re curious, take a look at the books, podcasts, and newsletters that have been getting some airtime over in my world.

Exploring my future career

I’ve recently left Google, and I’m currently taking the time to really explore what comes next in my career. Right now, my days are filled with a mix of strategic and tactical activities:

Reflecting on my Google experience

I’ve done a lot in the last 5 years. To be honest, it’s crazy to think I was actually at Fitbit/Google for so long, and I’m proud of what I’ve helped my teams accomplish. Most recently, cofounding an internal startup at Area 120 with my amazing (former) Google colleague Matthijs Schellekens was an incredible experience, and it’s regrettable that we didn’t have the opportunity to finish what we started. Our work, focusing on resistance training, had a clear opportunity to impact millions – if not billions of people’s lives. I’m hopeful that Google will be able to deliver on exceptional fitness experiences for everyone in the future. But, even before my amazing Area 120 experience, I had some incredible opportunities for impact across other parts of Google:

Physical health

One of the things I’m most thankful for regarding my Fitbit experience is a strong commitment to fitness and health, with an eye towards increased health span. Over the past few years, I’ve become an avid cyclist, someone who really cares about nutrition, and a person who’s routinely training. On top of that, I’ve been focusing on breath work, deepening my meditation practice, and journaling – all things that I’ve tried since leaving Google.

2022 Holidays

All things considered, the holidays were great. Jackie and I did a lot. We hiked a bunch, cooked a ton of great food, and spent a lot of time together. It was a fantastic end to the year. I’m hoping the end of 2023 is just as good – if not better.
